This recipe book was produced by the Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries to promote the National Mark range of foods.

The National Mark foods movement was begun in 1928 to promote the use of food produced in England and Wales and established a quality standard. One of their slogans was Don't shop in the dark.

The book gives a range of recipes for the various foods included in the National Mark scheme, beef, poultry, Eggs, vegetables, fruit salads, canned and bottled foods and flour. Each section is begun by a brief introduction to the food item.

There are 64 pages which include an illustration of the various meat cuts available (in the London trade) and a forward by the Minister for Agriculture and Fisheries. Each section gives a range of recipes for the particular food

There is no specific publication date but the printer's reference suggests it was published in 1936. It is quite typical of government publications of the time and is mostly text with only a few general photographs.

Size 21 x 16.5cm with thin card covers. It has been well used and so there is some wear to the covers and rounding of the corners.

The previous owner of the book was a domestic science teacher and so she may have used this book in her lessons.
